Function Overview

Collaborate with engineering and other functions to develop designs for mechanical components and subsystems using computer-aided design (CAD)

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and revise robust solid models and detail drawings of complex components and assemblies from design layouts, marked prints, sketches, and verbal instructions.

  • Operate within a product lifecycle management (PLM) environment to specify parts and assemblies, create product structure, and receive/complete tasks.

  • Establish component tolerances in accordance with manufacturing capabilities.

  • Apply design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) concepts in developing designs.

  • Critique designs for safety, manufacturability, failure modes, customer usage and function.

  • Perform complex tolerance analysis and validation.

  • Participate in design review activities.

  • Assist in establishing basic project design objectives and in the selection of design approaches.

  • Develop and obtain prototype parts for testing and pre-production activities.

  • Engage with new technologies: desktop 3d printing, virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Design Technology and 5+ years of experience using CAD


  • Associate degree in Drafting/Design Technology and 8+ years of experience using CAD

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience using Creo Parametric with workspaces in Windchill.

  • Experience using Windchill to specify parts, create product structure, and receive/complete tasks.

  • Advanced CAD modeling, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), plastic part design, and DFM/DFA proficiency.

  • Ability to manage time and work effectively while being self-motivated.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experience using Google’s G Suite products (Gmail, calendar, hangouts, drive, docs, sheets, slides, sites).
