This role in summary

This position of Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer is focused on Electronic Controls and User Interfaces Development. The engineer will be a member of Whirlpool’s Electronics, Electrical Systems and Innovation Organization, a global team of close to 600 people developing cutting edge electronics for home appliances. The position reports to the Hardware Manager based in the USA, with peers in Latin America, Italy, India, China, Poland and Brazil. The primary role is to develop new electronics hardware with a global, cross category impact. The day-by-day therefore will require this Senior Engineer to be creative and to deep dive into the physics and electronics of each project in order to fully understand, map and optimize the final solutions.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Design, develop and validate embedded hardware applications from requirements to production release. (Control boards and/or User Interfaces)

  • Select and integrate hardware modules to build embedded hardware applications.

  • Create or update schematic diagrams as needed

  • Electronic/Electrical Circuit Design/Modeling/Simulation

  • PCB Layout design and/or review

  • Component selection for hardware execution.

  • Prototype assembly, initial testing, debugging, and functional verification

  • Along with engineering & procurement staff, manage all communication with suppliers/manufacturers to define components/assembly supply chain and evaluate all results effectively.

  • Actively Participate and/or lead Technical Design Reviews

  • Document technical information according to internal processes.

  • Project planning (time, budget, samples, cost assessment, quality improvements, etc.)

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electronics

  • 6+ years of experience as a hardware design engineer

  • 6+ years of experience in schematic capture, hardware circuit design in either digital or analog or both, circuit simulation, hardware debugging and embedded hardware solutions, from requirements capture to production release

Preferred skills and experiences

  • M.Sc. in Engineering degree

  • Experience with test plans and test tracking

  • Knowledge in 6 sigma methodologies

  • Great Electrical Engineering fundamentals

  • Experience with industry standards, hardware circuit design, PCB Layout and circuit simulation tools.

  • Experience in working with both global and regional teams

  • Design for EMC & EMI

  • Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up and debugging and functional verification

  • Effective communication, documentation and negotiating skills

  • Experience with 32 Bit microcontrollers selection, evaluation and design.

  • Desired experience in the following areas:

  • Analog and Digital Logic design

  • Signal Integrity analysis

  • Testability and Design of Experiments

  • Various communication protocols (I2C, SPI, CAN etc)

  • LED driving circuits.

  • Project assessment & risk management

  • Isolated and non isolated power supply design (AC-DC and DC-DC)

  • Experience developing projects in a stage-gate process

  • Technical coaching abilities
