The team you will be a part of

The Tax team ensures that the organization meets its tax obligations and objectives and complies with all relevant laws and regulations. Activities may include undertaking research; evaluating the legality and tax effectiveness of current and future business activities; preparing and submitting tax returns, tax declarations, and other required reports; maintaining tax records; and corresponding with external tax agencies or consultants.

This role in summary

Whirlpool is seeking qualified candidates for a Tax Manager position to join our Tax Department. This person will work across our finance organization, oversee complex tax matters, and partner with our business leaders to provide tax guidance. This position is located at our Global Headquarters in Benton Harbor, Michigan. #LI-DD1

Your responsibilities will include

  • Oversee Indirect Tax Compliance including but not limited to sales tax, and other gross receipts-based taxes, monthly sales/use tax compliance is outsourced to a third party

  • Actively manage indirect tax audits which will include working with other functions to obtain documentation

  • Management and/or mentoring with other staff members

  • Actively develop junior tax professionals

  • Proactively partner with business units in launching initiatives in which indirect taxes are directly impacted

  • Partner with manufacturing finance teams in review of purchases for use tax application

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business

  • 5+ years experience in state and local indirect tax (sales & use and excise tax)

Preferred skills and experiences

  • CPA certification in the respective state in which you are practicing

  • Previous Big 4 or large CPA firm experience

  • Excellent research and writing skills

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Strong management experience

  • Strong project management experience

  • Experience in implementing or upgrading sales tax platforms

  • Previous experience working with state or local tax authorities is preferred

  • Experience training and supervising Staff and Seniors

  • Experience with tax software (Vertex or other similar software experience)
